Terminalia arjuna (Arjun) :-Cardiomyopathy like Myocardial infraction, angina, coronary artery disease, heart failure, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension. In case of heart attack though it can not act against, like streptokinase or eurokinase, but regular use of it after just recovering from heart attack, reduces the chance of further attack to a great level. Arjuna has been shown to help reverse hardening of the arteries. It is cardio-tonic thus providing nutrition to heart muscles and strengthening them. It normalizes the disturbed rhythms of heart and also reduces the heart rate. This is found to be helpful in edema as well. It reduces the clotting tendency of blood. It reduces the stress and nervousness of the heart. It helps in reversing the hardening of the blood vessels.

Mode Of Action :-The cardioprotective effects of terminalia may thought to be caused by the antioxidant nature of several of the constituent flavonoids and oligomeric proanthocyanidins, while positive inotropic effects may be caused by the saponin glycosides. Improvement of cardiac muscle function and subsequent improved pumping activity of the heart seems to be the primary benefit of Terminalia. It is thought the saponin glycosides might be responsible for inotropic effects of Terminalia, while the flavonoids and OPCs provide free radical antioxidant activity and vascular strengthening.
